Colchester Soccer Club Recreation Program

To provide each player the opportunity to play soccer in a supportive and rewarding environment that emphasizes fun, enjoyment and skill learning, through equal participation, regardless of ability.

The divisional coordinators are responsible for the daily oversight and communication within their assigned division.  They will partner with the VP of Rec, DOC and Website Coordinator in sourcing for coaches, distributing equipment and uniforms, scheduling and club communications.

The program starts at Kindergarten and continues to 12th grade. There are four levels:

I. Kindergarten
This level concentrates on early gross skill development: dribbling, passing, kicking, trapping, and heading. Scrimmage games are played 6 on 6 (two forwards, two midfielders, two backs per team). Scoring is not kept as the focus is on the individual skills. Parent involvement is paramount to the success of the recreation program at this level. Practices are on Saturday mornings for and hour and consist of 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of game time.

II. 1st Grade
This level continues to build on the skills learned in Kindergarten and starts to develop the finer aspects of the skills. This is the first time players are separated into teams with assigned coaches and uniforms and will play together throughout the season. Scrimmage games are played in the same manner as the Kindergarten program. Practices are on Saturday mornings for and hour and consist of 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of game time.

III. 2nd Grade
This level continues to build on the skills learned in the 1st grade program and further fine tunes the skills. Goalies are introduced for the first time. Players are separated into teams just as in 1st grade. Scrimmage games are played in the same manner as the 1st grade program. Practices are scheduled for 1.5 - 2 hours one night during the week followed by a game on Saturday. There will be one night game under the lights. Scoring is not kept.

IV. 3rd Grade and up
This level equates to the travel program but at a recreational level. Players are divided into teams as in earlier grades. Scoring is kept and more advanced skills and strategies are taught and are built upon all previous years. Practices and games follow the same schedule as the 2nd grade program.

There are two sessions open for the Recreation Program: Fall and Winter. Players may sign up for either or both sessions. The fall session is played outdoors at the Colchester Recreation Complex. The winter session is played indoors in the Jack Jackter Intermediate School Gym. The winter session does not include instruction, rather, the entire time is spent playing games.

Playing Time – All players will receive equal playing times (to the best of the coach’s ability).

Team Selection - The Division Coordinator, VP of Rec and the coaches work together to ensure teams are as balanced as possible.  There are no try-outs for recreational teams.
